Smart and Skilled

Strategic Corporate Training is an approved NSW Smart and Skilled provider.

Smart and Skilled is an initiative of the NSW Government that provides subsidised training and higher level courses to help individuals obtain skills to find a job or advance their career.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with an entitlement to government subsidised training up to and including Certificate III and government funding for higher level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.

Strategic Corporate Training has been an approved provider of the NSW Government for Smart and Skilled training since inception of the initiative in 2018.

In 2021, our organisation was recognised by the NSW Department of Education as a High Performing Provider for demonstrated achievement of best practices that align to the NSW Quality Framework in maximising the student experience. Due to our ongoing commitment to quality, we have continued to maintain this valued status.

Under Smart and Skilled training, Strategic Corporate Training can offer NSW residents (including sponsored students working in NSW) access to subsidised training which significantly reduces the cost of achieving a qualification.  For more information on Smart and Skilled, visit education.nsw.gov.au.

APPROVED TARGET PRIORITIES QUALIFICATIONS

Strategic is an approved provider of the following Targeted Priorities Full Qualifications for eligible students residing or working in NSW. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

  • BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety - currently being fully funded by the NSW Government under the NSW Fee Free Initiative 

  • BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management

  • RII40420 Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations

APPROVED TRAINEESHIPS

Strategic is an approved provider of fee-free traineeship programs under Smart and Skilled for new entrant trainees (in NSW) for the following qualifications:

  • RII20920 Cert II in Drilling Operations

  • RII31820 Cert III in Drilling Operations

  • RII30420 Cert III in Resource Processing

  • RII30120 Cert III in Surface Extraction Operations

  • RII20320 Cert II in Underground Coal Mining

  • RII30220 Cert III in Underground Coal Operations

  • RII30320 Cert III in Underground Metalliferous Mining

  • RII40420 Cert IV in Underground Coal Operations

  • RII40520 Cert IV in Leadership and Management

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

ELIGIBILITY

Are you:

  • 15 years old or over?
  • no longer at school?
  • living or working in NSW?
  • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen?

If you answered Yes to all four questions, then you're eligible to enrol in Smart and Skilled training.

Other eligibility conditions:

Your eligibility is not affected if you have completed a vocational education and training (VET) course, including a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, as part of your high school education. There are also some exceptions to the eligibility conditions described above, such as for Aboriginal people.

STUDENT FEE

The price of Smart and Skilled qualifications is a set price for the full qualification. Strategic must charge the student the relevant fee calculated by the NSW Government. If you're eligible for subsidised training under Smart and Skilled, you pay only a portion of the training cost. The rest is subsidised by the NSW Government.

USI PROCESS

All students undertaking nationally recognised training require a Unique Student Identifier (USI).  A USI is a reference number made up of numbers and letters that give students access to their USI account. An individual's USI account is linked to the VET Data Collection allowing an individual to see all of their training results from all providers including all completed training units and qualifications.   

To create your USI go to the USI website at www.usi.gov.au and follow the steps below:

  • View the Student Video

  • Click on the Create a USI Panel and follow the directions

  • Set access controls on the USI Portal to allow Strategic Corporate Training and the NSW Department of Education access to information

  • Record your USI number on the Enrolment Application Form

  • Store your USI number in a secure place.

Under the Student Identifiers Act, a training organisation cannot issue a Statement of Attainment or a Qualification unless the student has been assigned a USI for course completion. 

CONSUMER PROTECTION

As a training provider, Strategic has an obligation to comply with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 and the Smart and Skilled Contract requirements.  Students can therefore expect that the service they receive before, during and after training and assessment will be of a quality consistent with these requirements.

As a student enrolled in Smart and Skilled training you are also covered by consumer protection measures under the Smart and Skilled Consumer Protection Strategy.
